Goth Cake Sale for Shelter Box - Press Release By Shelter Box June 2016

‘Goth cake sale’ for ShelterBox – bakers and cake-lovers are invited to explore their dark side this Sunday

Disaster relief agency ShelterBox is lucky enough to attract plenty of talented bakers to arrange fundraising cake sales. But none like this before. A group of clothing designers have named themselves ‘Goths against inhumanity’ and this Sunday they will be showing off the dark arts of the ‘domestic gothess’.

‘Think black icing, impressive gothic sugar craft, delicious sweets, and above all a great sense of community among the alternative scene.’ That’s the invitation from Kate Seagroatt, owner of Kate's Clothing based in Birmingham, as they put on a very different cake sale in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday afternoon.

The charitable arm of the company is ‘Goths against inhumanity’, and Kate and her colleagues are not only into Goth fashion, but also Goth baking – which requires an eye for spell-binding presentation, unexpected colour schemes, and a fun twist on the great British tea party.

‘Goths against humanity’ are putting the whole event together in support of ShelterBox. General Manager of Kate’s Clothing, Kelly Sabrina Lyne, says, ShelterBox has helped over a million people back from the brink of homelessness - something we find both impressive and wonderful. They transform lives after disasters and conflict that rob people of their homes. As well as giving tools to help build shelters for those left homeless, it also helps people heal emotionally, giving a feeling of hope and positivity towards a new future.’

‘So in order to give thanks to the incredible work Shelterbox do, we'll be raising money for them in the form of a gothic bake sale!’

To get people in the mood they have put three gothic recipes online in the Kate’s Clothing Blog. Here you can find out how to bake a Dark Chocolate Guinness Cake with Baileys Frosting, Halloween Bat Biscuits, and Chocolate and Blackberry Elegant Halloween Cake. There are many more recipes on Hannah Hossack’s Domestic Gothess site.

The cake sale is being held at St John's Church Hall, 4 Walmley Road, Sutton Coldfield B76 1QN from 14.00 on Sunday 10 July. There will be music and a party atmosphere. The organisers say, Everyone is invited, and though there is no strict dress code we would love to see you in your alternative Sunday best or Whitby Goth weekend style finest!’
