Your Top 10: Horror Characters!
Your Top 10 Super Scary Horror Characters!
You may have noticed we recently ran a competition where we asked you guys to name your favourite horror character, or the one who truly gives you the heeby jeebies, so we've decided to compile a fun little top 10 list based on your responses. Enjoy! Thanks for all your entries, congratulations to the winners and commiserations to everyone who didn't win this time around. Make sure to stay tuned to our Facebook page and the blog for more fun competitions! So without further ado, here are your top ten:
10. Tiffany Valentine
Quite a few of you picked this deadly doll as your favourite horror character! Full of sass, super creepy, with a very enviable head of hair and killer fashion sense, we can see why plenty of you are showing Tiffany Valentine some love!
Our favourite quote: "Barbie, eat your heart out."
9. The Sanderson Sisters
The infamous witch trio from Hocus Pocus were a lot of our entrants' faves! For some, it was because the witches were genuinely terrifying as a child watching the film, whilst others just loved their attitude and witty one-liners.
Our favourite quote: "Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me SICK!"
Everyone's favourite interdimensional pin-cushion...it's Pinhead from Hellraiser! Or if you want to be all accurate about it - his official title is "Hell Priest". Apart from his ghoulish appearance, there's something about Pinhead's cold and articulate demeanor that makes him extra creepy.
Our favourite quote: "Your suffering will be legendary - even in hell!"
7. Jack Torrence
Heeeere's Johnny! It's no surprise that quite a few of our competition entries picked Jack Torrance from The Shining as their favourite horror character - this classic character and Jack Nicholson's famous portrayal in the film by Stanley Kubrick make for a suspense-packed watch, and watching Jack Torrence go from stressed out dad to total maniac by the end of the film is pretty damn scary!
Our favourite quote: "Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in!"
6. Damien Thorn
Ah, creepy children - almost guaranteed to give you goosebumps. But Damien Thorn from The Omen has got to be one of the best examples, and has definitely made a few parents question things about their children when they give them that "I'm putting a curse on you as we speak" look!
5. The Alien/Xenomorph
No explanation needed for why this character (or perhaps it's more accurate to say this creature) ranked highly! Utterly terrifying and completely deadly, the xenomorph is just as frightening now as when the first Alien film came out in 1979 - no CGI needed!
4. Hannibal Lecter
Another absolutely classic, genre defining horror character - everyone's favourite cannibal psychopath, Hannibal Lecter! Most famously portreyed by Anthony Hopkins in classic horror/thriller Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter has also appeared in quite a few hit sequels and prequels, just going to show how much scope and depth this character has, which only adds to his scare-factor!
Our favourite quote: "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."
3. Michael Myers
Another very popular choice from our competition entries! Probably the scariest thing about this character from classic 1978 horror film Halloween is the fact that we know so little about him - we don't know why he kills, we never hear him speak, and we don't even see his face under that mask. We don't know if he's crazy, possessed, cursed or has some twisted motive we don't understand - all we know is that if he catches you...you're dead. Add to that some creepy piano music, lots of screaming, and you've got yourself a horror movie that stands up against hosts of modern films by being so simple. What would you do if you saw that masked figure standing in your front yard? *Shivers*.
2. It/Pennywise the Dancing Clown
Probably THE horror film of 2017, It, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name is so far the second highest grossing horror movie of all time - only losing to The Sixth Sense. This is at least in part based on the fact that the eponymous creature, also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown is one of the creepiest creations out there - and he kept turning up again and again (like a bad penny) in your entries! The pasty-faced, mysterious creature is not only the ultimate creepy clown of your nightmares, but also forces you to face your deepest darkest fears and drags poor unwitting children to their doom. Some of you preferred Tim Curry's 1986 version, but whichever one you think is scarier, they are both pretty terrifying.
Our favourite quote: "Where you going, Eds? If you lived here you'd be home by now! Come join the clown, Eds. You'll float down here. We all float down here. Yes, we do!"
1. Freddy Krueger
Although you guys had some really varied choices, there was definitely a clear winner! The horror character guaranteed to give you nightmares, it's Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street! This classic slasher movie villain has it all: a frightening appearance, a grizzly weapon, sadistic motives, and a supernatural ability to enter your dreams, making for a terrifying combination. Whatever you do - DONT. FALL. ASLEEP!
