Necessary Evil is an in-house gothic clothing brand designed by Kate, and unlike most labels you'll find online, there's a real person behind every piece. Kate has been designing Necessary Evil since the early days of Kate's Clothing, with a focus on gothic fashion that fits real bodies, lasts properly, and doesn't compromise on drama.

The collection centres on gothic knitwear, dresses, mesh layers, and statement pieces - including the Athena, our long gothic hooded cardigan that's developed something of a cult following. Expect dramatic draping, batwing sleeves, flattering cuts, and cosy layers that feel as good as they look. These are clothes to live in, love in, and keep for years.

Many styles are now proudly made in the UK, using soft, durable fabrics that move beautifully and stand the test of time. We're also committed to inclusive sizing, with newer designs reaching UK 24 and beyond, because gothic fashion should fit and flatter every body.
